SAUCE BOSS NEWS: ‘Smoke-Free Alternatives Trade Association Membership Soars as Vapor Industry Thrives’
WASHINGTON, DC – (July 14, 2014) – The Smoke-Free Alternatives Trade Association(SFATA), dedicated to advocacy, awareness and education in the vapor products industry, today announced it added 102 members during the first half of 2014, bringing its total membership to 171 companies. The increase makes SFATA the largest association of vapor product distributors, manufacturers, and retailers in the U.S.
According to SFATA Executive Director Cynthia Cabrera, the surge in membership coincided with the trade group’s annual Spring Conference, which marked the first industry-wide discussion on vapor product standards. As the industry matures, SFATA is leading a wave of new entrepreneurs who have accelerated the growth by offering customized products such as open-tank systems and e-liquids.
“As the economy is rebounding, many of these businesses are helping the recovery by creating jobs through innovation,” commented Cabrera. “Vapor products are fundamentally driven by technology, so there are continuous opportunities for growth and enhancement.”
The vapor industry has expanded significantly in recent years as vapor products like electronic cigarettes have become more popular among smokers seeking an alternative to combustible cigarettes. The overall industry is expected to grow to $10 billion or more by 2017, according to reports.
As the leading professional group in the vapor category, SFATA offers members the tools and resources to grow their businesses, help customers understand the benefits of vapor products, and navigate the regulatory and legislative processes necessary to ensure the continued health of the category.

SAUCE BOSS NEWS: ‘The Low Down on Vapor in the Lungs’
The Low Down on Vapor in the Lungs
from: ejuiceconnoisseur.com/2013/12/…/the-low-down-on-vapor-in-the-lungs
Once again we find ourselves listening to the same, tired, repetitive tripe vomiting violently out of the mouths of ANTZ (Anti-Nicotine and Tobacco Zealots). It generally goes something like this, “There still haven’t been any serious studies on the health effects of electronic cigarettes.” This statement has been repeated like a broken record, like a broken record, like a broken record, like a… ehem… for about seven years now. The actual level of ignorance present in this asinine statement, backed by all of the intimidating power of ulterior motives and corrupt special interests, is tantamount to me telling everyone I come across, in a self-assured, arrogant tone of voice, that nobody really knows yet whether or not Penicillin is effective. The actual, real truth behind this phenomenon is that there have been more scientific studies, laboratory analyses, surveys, and medical professional opinion journal writings than you can shake a stick at. On the flip side, however, there was once a single study, of a single (disposable, gas-station-purchased) electronic cigarette that uncovered trace amounts of ethylene glycol which (in much larger amounts) is toxic to human beings. These trace amounts of ethylene glycol were due to the usage of polyethylene glycol, which has since been replaced by the completely safe propylene glycol.
And now to answer those nay-sayers who are reading this saying, “Oh, yeah… Prove it!” First, let’s discuss the CDC’s (Center for Disease Control) study from 1994 regarding the use of various glycols in theatrical fog, used repeatedly in productions on Broadway (and elsewhere of course) to the point where actors began to worry about the effects of the fog on their respiratory function. Their fears, however, were put to rest when studies revealed that, outside of a mild drying of the mucus membranes, a constant exposure to theatrical fog (over many years) resulted in zero negative health effects.
Next, we have a recent (February of this year; 2013) study by FAME laboratories in Thessaly, Greece. This particular study was designed to research the effects (if any) of e-cigarette vapor on human lung functioning. The test was done with both smokers and non-smokers and studied the effects of first-hand and second-hand smoke and vapor. The results of this test? Vaping causes much smaller, or non-existent changes in lung functioning than does smoking. Second-hand vaping is completely harmless, and also results in such a small intake of nicotine that it is barely worth mentioning.

SAUCE BOSS NEWS: ‘Government Will Allow Flavor Juices for E-cigarettes’
Government will allow flavor juices for e-cigarettes for now
From: http://www.ngnews.ca/News/Local/2014-11-05/article-3929600
The appeal of e-cigarette users to stop a ban on flavored juices seems to have been successful.
Shai Sinnis says she is happy that flavored e-juices are going to be permitted but is unhappy that e-cigarettes will be classified as a tobacco product.
Shai Sinnis says she is happy that flavored e-juices are going to be permitted but is unhappy that e-cigarettes will be classified as a tobacco product.
The government issued a release Wednesday saying it will consult with Nova Scotians on whether certain flavors should be exempt from a ban on flavored tobacco and e-cigarette juice. The ban was proposed as part of Bill 60 which amends the province’s tobacco legislation. To allow for consultation, all references to flavor were removed from the bill in a meeting of the Law Amendments Committee Wednesday.
“After reviewing the materials presented to the government at law amendments, it is clear we need further consultation,” said Health and Wellness Minister Leo Glavine. “Our consultation will focus on products and flavors targeted at youth.”
Consultations will be completed within a year. They will include meetings with interested groups, and a chance for the public to contribute. Bill 60 still includes changes to the Smoke-free Places Act prohibiting the use of e-cigarettes and waterpipes in indoor public places. It also includes changes to the Tobacco Access Act making it illegal to sell e-cigarettes to minors, and restricting vendors from displaying, advertising or promoting e-cigarettes. Shops selling only e-cigarettes and that do not allow minors to enter would be allowed to display products inside the store.
It was also decided at the Law Amendments Committee meeting the changes will come into effect May 31, 2015.
Shai Sinnis, co-owner of The End Vape shop in New Glasgow says the announcement is bitter sweet.
“It’s a win-lose,” she said. “We get to keep our flavors and that’s good, but we’re still classified as a tobacco product which is stupid because there’s no tobacco.”
She’s glad to see the new regulations don’t come into effect until May, 2015 and believes she and others will be able to fight that classification.
“That’s challengeable by all means,” he said. “That’s something we’ll face when we get there.”
As far as the other rules, she said she’s already doing them and has no problem with following them.
“We’re going to carry on business the way we are,” he said. “This is something we already do.”
Others were not pleased about the government’s announcement on Wednesday.
“We are confused as to why the government has weakened its commitment to protect children and youth from flavorings in all tobacco products and e-juice,”
said Krista McMullin, president of Smoke Free Nova Scotia. “Obviously, Minister Glavine had sufficient scientific evidence to introduce Bill 60 as a comprehensive tobacco control bill. We will be asking the Minister what evidence is required for future legislation to regulate flavorings appealing to youth.”
The Canadian Cancer Society also responded.
